A specialist and professor in the physiology of the kidney and one of the country’s leading basic researchers in this field. Founded and directed the well-known Danish Basic Research Center for Water and Salt at the University of Aarhus, where he directed pioneering research in the aquaporins and their role in the most basic functions of the kidney. Professor Nielsen has published over 400 peer-reviewed scientific articles.
Professor Nielsen was co-founder and CEO/COO of Action Pharma, well-known for the successful divestment of its drug candidate in 2012 to Abbott, Chicago, USA. In addition, he is co-founder and former CEO of the listed biotech company SynActPharma (in clinical development) as well as co-founder and former CEO of 2A Pharma, which in 2019 initiated the clinical development of a vaccine program.
He has a very considerable national and international network.

Responsible for preclinical development and IPR.
Specialist in AKI-051s active ingredient, developed diagnostic technology based on the active ingredient of AKI-051 for the early diagnosis of AKI.
Considerable experience in clinical medicine and biomedical research in both publicly financed research institutions and the pharmaceutical industry.
Professor Dr. Uttenthal is a former researcher at the Universities of Oxford, London and Madrid and was Professor in Biochemistry at the University of Salamanca.
He has over 45 years of experience in clinical medicine and biomedical research, as well as 18 years’ experience in directing R&D in the medical industry.
Many years of experience with the conception and defence of patents applications and ensuring the relevance of claims to clinical endpoints.

Our Management is responsible for the day-to-day management, the organization of the company, allocation of resources, determination and implementation of strategies and policies, direction setting and ensuring timely reporting and provision of information to the Board of Directors and AKI Therapeutical’s stakeholders.
